DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) shipping from China means the sender, not you, pays the import duty and taxes before the parcel reaches your country. You pay one price up front and nothing at the door. The alternative, usually called DDU or DAP, means the import charges are billed to you on arrival. DDP does not change customs rules: the goods still have to be allowed in and declared accurately; it only changes who pays and when.

For years, many small parcels from China entered the US without duty because of the $800 de minimis rule. That exemption ended in 2025, so a parcel of any value can now be charged duty. In the UK and EU, low-value parcels have also carried VAT from the first pound or euro for several years.

DDP covers:
- Import duty on the goods, at the rate that applies to them.
- Import VAT, GST or sales tax where the destination charges it on imports.
- Customs clearance paperwork handled by the shipping company.
DDP does not cover:
- Restricted or prohibited goods. If an item is not allowed into your country, paying the duty in advance does not change that.
- Inaccurate declarations. The contents and value on the declaration still have to be true. DDP is about who pays, not about paying less.
- Every route and every item. DDP lines are offered for particular destinations and product types, and availability changes.
- Customs inspections. Customs can still open and check a DDP parcel.
DDP for Personal Parcels vs Bulk Imports

Here DDP usually appears as a tax-free or taxes-included shipping line: you choose the route when you ship your parcel, and the import charges are prepaid in the route price. - Buy your items through the agent and let them arrive at the warehouse in China.
