Tmall in English 2026: Tmall vs Taobao vs Tmall Global, and How to Buy from Abroad
Tmall (天猫) has no full English website. It is Alibaba’s marketplace for brands and official stores inside China, and you browse it through the Taobao app, which shows Tmall stores in the same search results. Taobao’s English interface is available only in selected markets, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and Canada. Everywhere else, translate the pages in your browser and buy Tmall items through a shopping agent that ships them abroad. Updated October 2026.
Key takeaways
- Tmall is the “official store” side of Alibaba’s shopping ecosystem. Taobao is the open marketplace, and both are reached through the same Taobao app.
- Tmall Global (天猫国际) is a different thing: imported goods sold to Chinese consumers. It is not an export store for foreigners.
- Taobao’s app lists an English interface in selected markets only, including Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Canada and New Zealand. Check your app store listing for the current list.
- Most Tmall stores ship only to addresses in mainland China. Overseas buyers use a shopping agent, or Taobao’s own direct shipping where it is offered.
- Tmall is the safer choice for branded goods because stores must be official or authorised.
Is Tmall available in English?
Not as a separate English site. tmall.com is in Chinese, and the Tmall Global merchant pages on tmall.hk are aimed at brands that want to sell into China, not at overseas shoppers. Your options for reading Tmall in English:
| Method | Works where | Quality | Can you buy? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taobao app English interface | Selected markets only (see the app store listing) | Good: AI-translated listings and local currency | Yes, with direct shipping options in those markets |
| Browser translation (Chrome, Safari, Edge) | Anywhere | Fair; sizes and options can be garbled | Through an agent |
| Phone camera translation (Google Lens, Apple Translate) | Anywhere | Good for images and size charts | Through an agent |
| Shopping agent’s English product page | Anywhere | Translated title and options | Yes |
| AI assistant translation of pasted text | Anywhere | Good for questions and reviews | Through an agent |

Tmall vs Taobao: what’s the difference?
| Tmall (天猫) | Taobao (淘宝) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sells | Registered businesses: brand flagships (旗舰店), authorised dealers (专卖店) and multi-brand stores (专营店) | Individuals and small businesses, plus Tmall stores in search results |
| Typical goods | Branded and official products | Everything, including unbranded and niche items |
| Price | Usually higher | Usually lower, with more variation |
| Authenticity risk | Lower for official stores | Varies by seller |
| Returns and invoices | Store invoices (发票) are standard | Depends on the seller |
| How to spot it | Red “天猫” or TMALL label on the listing | No Tmall label; seller rating shown with hearts, diamonds or crowns |
For branded skincare, electronics and sportswear, buying from a 旗舰店 on Tmall is the simplest way to avoid fakes. See Chinese skincare brands on Tmall and Chinese clothing brands for examples.
What is Tmall Global, and can I use it?
Tmall Global (天猫国际) is Alibaba’s cross-border import channel. Overseas brands sell to shoppers in mainland China without a Chinese company, shipping from bonded warehouses in China or from abroad under China’s cross-border import rules. In other words, it brings foreign products into China.
- If you live outside China, Tmall Global rarely makes sense. Many items there are Western brands you can buy locally.
- Its listings can still be useful for comparing prices on Japanese, Korean or Australian products.
- If you want Chinese brands, use regular Tmall stores.
Does Tmall ship internationally?
Mostly no. Most Tmall stores ship only to addresses in mainland China. There are exceptions:
- In markets where Taobao offers direct shipping, some Taobao and Tmall items can be sent abroad from inside the app.
- Large brands sometimes run separate international stores (on AliExpress or their own websites) with different prices and catalogues.
For everything else, the usual route is: the store ships to an agent’s warehouse in China, the agent checks the item and then ships it to you, often combined with your other Taobao, 1688 or Weidian orders.
How to buy from Tmall outside China
- Find the item in the Taobao app or on tmall.com. Filter by 天猫 so only Tmall stores appear.
- Check the store type in the store name: 旗舰店 (official flagship), 专卖店 (authorised dealer) or 专营店 (multi-brand dealer).
- Copy the product link with the share button (分享 → 复制链接). If the copied link looks odd, our Taobao link converter explains how to fix it.
- Paste the link into your agent. Pick the colour and size, and add a note if needed.
- Review the QC photos once the item reaches the warehouse.
- Combine and ship with your other China orders, then pay the international shipping.
Is Tmall worth it compared with buying locally?
| Category | Tmall verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Chinese brands (Li-Ning, Anta, Perfect Diary, Bosideng) | Often worth it | Wider range and China-only models |
| Chinese electronics brands (Xiaomi ecosystem, accessories) | Sometimes | Check plug type, region locks and battery shipping rules |
| Western brands | Rarely | Prices are often similar to buying locally, and you add shipping and import tax |
| Bulky furniture | Rarely | Shipping volume costs more than the savings |
| Food, liquids, cosmetics with aerosols | Check first | Restricted on many shipping lines |

Is Tmall safe and legit?
Tmall is operated by Alibaba Group, and its stores have to be registered businesses. That makes Tmall flagship stores the lowest-risk way to buy branded Chinese products. Things to keep in mind:
- Authorised-dealer (专营店) stores vary. Check the store rating and recent reviews.
- Prices well below the flagship store’s price are a warning sign.
- Keep receipts and invoices. They help with any return handled through your agent.
