Chinese Clothing Brands: The Real Map, From Guochao Sportswear to Shanghai Designers (2026)

Sportswear-turned-streetwear, independent designers, mall-contemporary brands, one outerwear giant and a streetwear scene of its own — fourteen Chinese clothing brands, where to buy each one in China, and how to buy from a brand's…

Chinese clothing brands split into a few clear groups: sportswear companies that turned into streetwear labels (Li-Ning, Anta), independent designers stocked by Net-a-Porter and Farfetch (Shushu/Tong, Samuel Guì Yang), mall-contemporary brands running thousands of stores (JNBY, Urban Revivo, Peacebird), one outerwear giant (Bosideng), and a streetwear scene of its own (Roaring Wild, Randomevent). What’s missing from most write-ups is how to actually buy the China-market version — the full size run, the current season, the domestic price — from outside China.

Below: what each brand actually is, a table of where to buy it in China and whether it sells abroad, and the mechanics of buying from a brand’s own Tmall or Taobao store through a shopping agent.

Sportswear brands that became streetwear

  • Li-Ning (李宁). Founded in 1990 by the Olympic gymnast Li Ning. In February 2018, its 中国李宁 (China Li-Ning) line showed at New York Fashion Week, folding the brand’s Chinese-character logo into streetwear and starting guochao (国潮, “national trend”) — Chinese brands leaning into local heritage instead of echoing Western labels. It has kept showing internationally since. Buy from its official flagship store on Tmall; it also runs its own international site and reopened a Hong Kong flagship store after a decade away.
  • Anta (安踏). China’s largest sportswear company by revenue and one of the world’s largest sportswear groups. It runs its own global online store (anta.com, priced in US dollars) and opened its first North American store, in Beverly Hills, in February 2026. Its China range is far larger than either overseas channel; buy the rest from its official flagship store on Tmall.

Designer labels

Independent, design-led brands, not mass manufacturers — names that show up on Net-a-Porter or Farfetch next to European labels, a real signal, not marketing copy.

  • Angel Chen. Shenzhen-born, Central Saint Martins-trained, Shanghai-based; founded her label in 2014. She showed at New York Fashion Week via Tmall China Day in 2018 and did a capsule with H&M in 2019. Her flagship store on Tmall is ANGEL CHEN官方旗舰店; a jacket there ran around ¥4,280 in a September 2026 listing.
  • Feng Chen Wang. Shanghai-rooted, Royal College of Art-trained, based in London; founded her unisex label in 2015 and showed spring 2027 menswear in Paris in June 2026. No Tmall flagship turned up; in China she’s carried by the boutiques TONG (Shanghai, Beijing) and ON/OFF, and her own site, fengchenwang.com, ships worldwide from a China warehouse.
  • Samuel Guì Yang. Founded in 2015 by Central Saint Martins graduate Samuel Guidong Yang; the studio splits time between London and Shanghai. Stocked internationally at Farfetch, Browns Fashion and Machine-A. In China it currently sells through Taobao/Tmall listings and a Xiaohongshu store rather than one dedicated flagship; the brand says a new official website is coming.
  • Shushu/Tong. A Shanghai label founded in 2015 by London College of Fashion graduates Liushu Lei and Yutong Jiang. It opened a Tmall flagship store in 2019 and its first concept flagship, in Shanghai, in 2022. Abroad it’s carried by Net-a-Porter, SSENSE, Mytheresa, Nordstrom Rack, Dover Street Market and Lane Crawford — wide reach for an independent Chinese label.

Contemporary and high-street brands

The everyday-wear tier: brands sized for shopping malls, not runways, with the widest range and the most forgiving prices of any group here.

  • Urban Revivo (UR). A Guangzhou-based, multi-category retailer running more than 400 stores worldwide, including its first US store (New York’s SoHo, opened February 2025) and stores in London and Hong Kong. It sells domestically through its own site, ur.cn, and internationally through global.urbanrevivo.com, roughly $30–90 for basics.
  • Peacebird (太平鸟). Founded in 1996 in Zhejiang, now running more than 4,000 stores across China. Buy from its official flagship on Tmall (peacebird.tmall.com). Its “global super flagship,” opened February 2025, is on Shanghai’s East Nanjing Road — a domestic megastore, not an overseas one; no international online store turned up.
  • JNBY (江南布衣). Founded in 1994 in Hangzhou by Li Lin; its parent company has traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2016. It showed in New York in 2018, also via Tmall China Day. JNBY runs its own China stores and sells internationally through jnby.com.
  • Ellassay (歌力思). Founded in 1996 for affluent, 25-to-40-year-old professional women; listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2015. Its parent group has since bought the German label Laurèl and the French label IRO. Buy from its flagship on Tmall; the only overseas retail found was a duty-free counter at the Venetian Macao, so treat it as China-only for online buying.
  • ICICLE (之禾). Founded in Shanghai in 1997, built around undyed, natural fabrics and minimalist tailoring. Sells through its own China stores and internationally via icicle.com, priced $250 to roughly $1,390 for cashmere — the priciest brand here outside the designer names.

Outerwear: Bosideng

Bosideng (波司登) is China’s largest down-jacket maker. Buy the full China range from its official flagship store on Tmall. It also runs its own international site, bosidengfashion.com, based in the UK with a Mayfair, London store, shipping worldwide — the brand’s own international store, worth knowing given how often outerwear gets faked. It’s also sold at Galeries Lafayette in France. Everyday styles are mid-range; the AREAL line, designed with Kim Jones, is a premium collaboration.

Chinese streetwear labels

Separate from the guochao sportswear brands above, mainland China has its own streetwear scene, mostly sold through the brands’ own channels rather than international stockists.

  • Roaring Wild. Founded in 2010 in Shenzhen by a group of college friends. Runs its own international site, roaringwild.com, roughly $70–500, and has collaborated with Japan’s United Arrows. In China, buy from its own listings on Taobao.
  • Randomevent. Founded in 2012 by designer Hong Yang, originally from Wuxi and now centered in Shanghai, with stores in 23+ Chinese cities. Known for collaborations (Dickies, Puma, A.Society in September 2026). Buy from its official flagship on Tmall; internationally it sells through its own storefront on the retailer 60% (SIXTYPERCENT).

Where streetwear buyers actually shop covers more of the sourcing side once you’re past the well-known names.

How to buy the China-market version from abroad

Flagship stores, not random listings. Tmall only lets the brand itself, or a company with its exclusive authorization, open an 官方旗舰店; Alibaba checks the paperwork first. A 专卖店 or 专营店 is authorized too, just not brand-run — fine for an older style the flagship has sold out of. Skip anything selling brand-name goods well under the flagship’s price. Everything here is about buying from a brand’s own or authorized China store, never a replica.

How the order works. Copy the product link from the flagship store (the Taobao or Tmall app’s share text works too) and paste it into Fishgoo’s search box; the item opens with its price. Can’t read the Chinese name? Searching Taobao without reading Chinese covers a few ways in. Pay with PayPal or another method, no Chinese account needed, and check fabric and stitching in the 5 free QC photos you get before paying for international shipping — for tees and hoodies, what GSM in fabric means explains the weight number sellers list.

Paste the brand’s Tmall or Taobao link and see the price with QC photos included →

Sizing: go by the chart, not the size code. Chinese brands size to their own chart, not US, UK or EU numbers, and the gap varies by brand. Every listing carries a photo of its 尺码表 (size chart), giving bust/chest, waist and hip or shoulder width in centimeters per size. Measure yourself the same way — standing, tape snug but not pulled tight — and match your number to the chart rather than your usual S/M/L. It’s the single step that prevents most returns.

China price versus the brand’s own overseas price. Buying from the China store is often cheaper; not always. Several brands here are opening overseas stores partly to capture higher margins than at home, as Urban Revivo has told trade press while expanding into the US and UK, but a sale on either side can flip the comparison. Compare the same item on both sites before assuming China wins.

Returns happen before international shipping, not after. While your item is still at the warehouse in China, you can raise a problem or apply for a refund the normal way; the refund guide covers timing. Once you’ve paid for international shipping and the parcel has left China, a return means shipping it all the way back, so use the QC photos and size chart before that point.

FAQ

Is it safe to buy from Tmall?
Yes, if you buy from the brand’s own store. Tmall only lets the trademark owner, or a company with its exclusive authorization, open an 官方旗舰店 (official flagship store); Alibaba checks the paperwork first. The main risk is the same as on Taobao — an unauthorized listing using the brand’s photos and name. Buy from the flagship or an authorized store, and check the QC photos before shipping.

Are Taobao and Tmall the same?
No, though you shop both the same way. Taobao is the open marketplace, closer to eBay; Tmall is where a brand has to prove it owns the trademark before it can open a store, which is why flagships live there. Through Fishgoo you paste a link from either into the same search box — the difference matters for which store you pick, not for how you buy.

Does Tmall have an English version?
Not for browsing — the storefronts are in Chinese. Tmall Global (天猫国际) is a separate section for importing foreign brands into China, not what you want here. You don’t need to read Chinese to shop a Chinese brand’s store, though: search its English or Chinese name, or searching Taobao without reading Chinese covers more ways in.

Is Peacebird legit?
Yes. Peacebird (太平鸟) has traded since 1996, runs more than 4,000 stores across China, and is a mainstream mall brand, not an obscure one. Buy from its Tmall flagship or shop.peacebird.com rather than an unbranded listing using its photos, the same rule as any brand popular enough to attract copycats.

Are there Chinese designer brands, not just streetwear and sportswear?
Yes. Shushu/Tong, Feng Chen Wang, Samuel Guì Yang and Angel Chen are Chinese-founded labels stocked by Net-a-Porter, Farfetch, SSENSE or Browns Fashion abroad — real recognition, not marketing copy. Buying through their Chinese stores instead gets the full current collection at the China price, not the edited handful a stockist picked up.

What size should I order from a Chinese brand?
Ignore your usual S/M/L and go by the seller’s own chart, 尺码表 (chǐmǎ biǎo) — a photo giving bust/chest, waist and hip or shoulder width in centimeters per size. Measure yourself the same way and match your number to the chart rather than assuming a size code means what it does at home.

Can I return something if it doesn’t fit?
Before international shipping, yes. While the item is still at the warehouse in China you can raise a problem or apply for a refund; the refund guide covers timing. Once the parcel has left China, a return means shipping it all the way back, so check the QC photos and size chart before that point.

What’s the difference between a brand’s flagship store and any other shop selling it?
An 官方旗舰店 is run by the brand or its exclusive licensee. A 专卖店 or 专营店 is authorized too, just not brand-run, and is fine for an older style the flagship has sold out of. Anything else selling brand-name goods well below the flagship’s price is the listing to skip.
